Here are some of the crowdfunded projects that have caught our eye recently. Read on for a roundup of the best – and worst – that Kickstarter has to offer in July.

Kickstarter Watches Roundup – July 2022

A modular watch which claims to be the first of its kind has hit Kickstarter this month, along with a watch that charges itself.

Sequent Solar Charger

The Sequent Solar Charger claims to be powered with the largest single cell solar panel in a hybrid smartwatch. It’s made of stainless steel and its cases use upcycled #Tide ocean
material. The watch faces feature sapphire solar panels, which transform sunlight and indoor
artificial light into electricity. Their standby time is 2 years and the watches are assembled in Switzerland. Even at the price (over £200) the Sequent Solar Charger has exceeded it goal with a couple of weeks left to go in the Kickstarter campaign.

Linus Verthman Modular Watch

By contrast, the Linus Verthman watch has a more contemporary set of specifications. Look closer and you’ll see it’s a modular clip-together design like the Kustom watch we reviewed back in 2019. It’s a fun gimmick, but at £258 there is a lot of strong competition from quality automatic watches. Yes, it has a Swiss movement but in the quartz world that’s not really a selling point – you could grab a handful of Japanese quartz watches for the same money and have even more variety.

Buying a Watch on Kickstarter

Remember that Kickstarter is not a shop, it’s a place where you can back new businesses, That means you will have a wait before the watch you preorder arrives, and there is always a risk of losing your money. Don’t let that scare you off – read our guide to buying a watch on Kickstarter to find out more.
