A friend told me you’d have to be mad to launch a Kickstarter campaign close to Christmas. Everyone in the Western world is spent up until February. Nevertheless, some brave creators have chosen the festive season to launch their new watches. Are any worth your leftover Christmas money?
Kickstarter Watches Roundup – January
Not a lot of choice this month, but here are two that caught our eye this month:
Helgray Vigilante
Helgray is a well-established microbrand and the latest watch from the marque is already well past its funding target, so it is sure to make it into production. The Helgray Vigilante is, apparently, the world’s first quad time-zone Chronograph. If you need clocks on your workplace wall with the time in London, New York, Shanghai and Tokyo then your dreams have come true. It looks easier to read than you would expect, but we’d caution potential backers about Helgray’s reputation for long production delays and lack of communication with backers. Still, they always come through with the goods. Prices start at a very reasonable $229 for the quartz model and $289 for the automatic.

Behrens Original Moonphase
Moonphase watches are quite rare – but it is a complication that draws a lot of attention. The Behrens Original Moonphase watch looks really smart with a large moon at 6 O’clock and a very legible-looking face. The campaign is a little misleading as the lower pledge levels don’t actually have a moon phase display at all. Scroll down and you’ll find the Moonphase model at £291 – for which you get a watch powered by a reliable Japanese self-winding movement. The big moon phase display looks great, in our opinion – although the case is perhaps a little plain.
