It’s been six months since we last looked at the world of crowdfunded microbrands. Let’s take a look at some new crowdfunded watch projects that have caught our eye.
Crowdfunded Watches Roundup – July 2021
Summer is here, and with it, three new crowdfunded projects seeking to part people with their hard-earned cash. Are any of them worth backing?
Mathis Bernard Space Gravity
Mathis Bernard don’t directly claim that their watch will work in space gravity – which we think is actually the absence of gravity – but the cushion-case, skeleton-dial design looks quite cool nonetheless. We doubt that messrs Branson or Musk will be wearing these on their interstellar exploits at the asking price of £210. Although that price is a touch high for a Miyota 8-series watch they’ve raised over £5,000 already so they must be doing something right.

Astronic Watches – Tourbillon and Skeleton
From Space Gravity to “gravity-defying” – Astronic watches are offering a choice of two watches on their new Kickstarter campaign. They’ve named their watches after the F117-Nighthawk plane and the Apache AH-64 helicopter, which is an unusual choice given that the designs are not in any of the traditional aviation styles. That said, both watches look really good, and with prices starting at £282 for the Apache on leather – going up to £941 for the top-specced Nighthawk tourbillon they have a watch for almost any budget. For our money we’d rather pick up the Rotary Regent if we were in the market for a Genta-inspired watch, but if you prefer something with a bolder design you may want to take a look at the Astronic range.

Buying a Crowdfunded Watch
Remember that crowdfunding sites are not shops, they are places where you can back new businesses, That means you will have a wait before the watch you preorder arrives, and there is always a risk of losing your money. Don’t let that scare you off – read our guide to buying a watch on Kickstarter to find out more.
